Building Resilience
Rural living has both its charms and its challenges. That’s why a big part of our mission is to help our community stay strong in the face of adversity. Whether that comes in the form of power outages, road closures, wildfires or economic uncertainty, the Outpost aims to help the South Coast face the trials of an ever-changing landscape.
In 2020, the Loma Mar Store played an important role in supporting fire fighters who were working to contain the CZU Lightning Complex fires, and over the years, residents have often stopped by to access the free WiFi connection during storms and power outages.
The Outpost is working to expand our offerings and become a Resiliency Resource Hub by providing a “safe harbor” in the midst of storms and emergency situations. As often as possible, we will remain open during outage events to provide a heated space, warm food, power to recharge devices, WiFi access to stay connected, and all the Resilience Resources you might need when the lights go out.
We’re also developing and collaborating with other organizations to improved emergency education, communication and infrastructure to build a stronger, more resilient South Coast community.
Providing a place of respite and serving firefighters was mission critical during the CZU fires.
