ART: Life Drawing with a Costumed Model

Life drawing is the process of drawing from the human form. During this studio session time, artists will have an opportunity to practice figurative drawing basics like scale, shape and proportion as well as gesture and emotion working from a live clothed model. The model will start the session with a series of short warm-up poses and work up to longer poses. Each pose will provide an opportunity for inspiration and practice. Attendees should bring their own drawing supplies, easels and, if you’d like, a cushion for a chair. All levels of artists are welcome. Appropriate for ages 14 up. However children 14 - 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will be moderated by Madrone Arts founding member Shannon Webb. Preregister to secure your seat: workshops@madronearts.com.

COMMUNITY: Venture Retreat Fundraiser Community Dinner

Celebrate the Spring Equinox at the Venture Retreat Center Community Dinner Fundraiser. There will be Venture soup and salad, and seasonal treats from California Girl Catering, Trail to Table, Simms Organics, and Cooking for Friends. If you’re so inspired, you can bring a dish to share. And bring your musical instruments and rhythm makers, too. Fire dancers Christina and Vanessa will perform.

ART: Treasure Box Collage Workshop

Jeweler Wesley Barrow leads this class focused on artistic free expression. With lots of vintage jewelry and trinkets to choose from, this workshop offers an opportunity for each participant to create their own special treasure box. Learn how to use recycled materials and create something beautiful. 

All materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a few personal items to make their treasure box uniquely theirs.

Appropriate for ages 14 up, however children 14 - 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $120 Register at Madrone Arts.

ART: Collage & Mixed Media Workshop

Artist Susan Friedman (photographer/filmmaker, mixed media artist), an award- winning documentary filmmaker and photographer, will facilitate this collage and mixed media workshop at Madrone Arts. A collage (from the French: coller, to glue) is a work of formal art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
 Collage/mixed media is a very expressive way to create layers and depth in your artwork. During the workshop you will explore transfers, painting, color and sanding or "distressing" paper through the use of a wide range of materials to create interesting fragments of visual information.

ART: Winter Knitting Workshop

Madrone Arts will host its winter knitting series of four Saturday sessions (March 1, 8, 15 and 22). The class is suitable for those with no experience to knitters with intermediate skills. In this class, inexperienced and beginning students will learn to knit and purl, and how to cast on and cast off. These four techniques are very powerful and will let students design and make beautiful items of their own choosing. Instruction for more experienced students may be personalized according to skill level. Time permitting, students may become familiar with how to read patterns. Practice materials will be provided, but students will be expected to purchase materials for their personal projects. The instructor will assist in selecting a design and identifying materials that will work best for personal student projects. By the end of this short workshop, students will be able to knit some fun and basic items. Artist Rhonda Rungsitiyakorn, a lifelong knitter, will facilitate.
